New Mexico State running back Larry Rose III was selected to the Sun Belt All-Conference first team on Friday entering his senior year.
Rose has a lot to play for his senior year. An average year by his standards and he will pass Denvis Manns for the significant school rushing records, he's part of Doug Martin's first senior class that wants to end on a high note and he has NFL aspirations.
Rose passed Manns his sophomore year with 1,651 rushing yards in 2015 for the single season rushing record. Rose is third on the career rushing yards list, needing 1,075 yards to surpass Manns and he is currently fourth on the rushing touchdowns list, 10 behind Manns with 27 career touchdowns.
"When i first came here, I set a few goals and every time I step on the field, I look up at the Fulton Center and see Denvis Manns' name up there and think that if I want my name up there, I have to chase after him," Rose said.
I sat down with Rose for a few minutes this week, but I'll post his answer to my last question for him here first.
Like many reporters or journalists, I'm paranoid or always worried about what I might miss. There was a part of me last season that worried about Rose transferring. I think it's more common now, especially for upper classmen and I was wondering if perhaps he ever thought about spending a season in a bigger conference vs. better competition, etc.
"I thank Coach Martin so much for just giving me an opportunity to do what I do," Rose said. "Everything is just falling into place. I think with my teammates help, I have done a good job at doing what I can do and putting up numbers in this conference."
