LAS CRUCES – The only time Ivan Aurrecoechea backs down is when he's backing you down in the paint.
Standing at 6-foot-8, 235 pounds, the senior center from Madrid, Spain, faces bigger opponents most nights he steps onto the court for New Mexico State. It's something he knows is a disadvantage, but it's a challenge he embraces.
"I've always been the small big man, but that has never scared me" Aurrecoechea said. "I never thought that playing in the post meant you have to be tall and big. That helps you, of course. But, if you're smart enough and you know how to use your height and your weight, it creates a balance."
