It was announced that Johnny McCants, Teddy Allen and Terrell Brown will each join the Wichita Sky Kings as they make their debut in The Basketball League. The Sky Kings will compete in the Central Division of the league alongside seven other teams located in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas. In all, the league consists of 44 total teams spanning 23 states and two countries.
After leading the Aggies to a win over UConn in the NCAA Tournament, Teddy Allen declared for the 2022 NBA Draft. Allen went unselected but landed a spot on the Denver Nuggets' NBA Summer League roster. Allen was then signed by the Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League for the conclusion of the 2022 CEBL season.
Since departing Las Cruces as the all-time winningest player in program history, Johnny McCants joined Head Coach Greg Heiar's staff as a Men's Basketball Analyst. With the Aggies, he helped with game preparation and player development. This will be McCants' first professional assignment of his career; however, he did compete for the PanAmaniacs in The Basketball Tournament last summer.
Lastly, California native and former Aggie guard Terrell Brown will also join the Wichita Sky Kings for their debut season. Brown donned the Crimson & White for two seasons, helping guide the Aggies to a pair of WAC regular season titles and an appearance in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. As an Aggie, he garnered First Team All-WAC and WAC All-Tournament honors while being named to the WAC All-Defensive Team in 2020.
Former NM State manager Cesar Lujan-Flores also adds to the list of Aggies in Wichita as he will serve as an Assistant Coach for the Sky Kings this season.
The Sky Kings will officially start their season on Friday, March 17, 2023, when they host the Shreveport Mavericks in Charles Koch Arena. Those interested can learn more about the Wichita Sky Kings via their team website.
