New Mexico State at least knows their immediate future. The 2016 schedule is less than 100 days away and as of June 3rd, the Aggies know all of their 2017 opponents with the addition of Arkansas.
With road games at New Mexico and Arizona State plus a home date with I-10 rival UTEP, the non-conference is set. With the projection that the Aggies won't play Sun Belt newbie Coastal Carolina, you can just flip the home and away Sun Belt foes in 2017.
Beyond 2017, New Mexico State is out of the Sun Belt and heads off into the unknown.

Interesting thoughts. I like the UMASS idea with basketball games thrown in. I see this: UTEP UNM 2 SEC 1 Big 12 1 Big 10/Pac 12 1 FCS 1 MWC 1 MAC 1 American 2 Sun Belt

I'd like to see more MWC than one game a year. I know it doesn't bring in the money that the P5 body bag games bring in, but it's regional for us and we may be able to set up some home-home or 2-for-1 agreements with schools like CSU, Wyoming, UNLV, and Air Force (and some of those might actually be winnable). Additionally, games like that keep us visible to the conference that makes the most sense for us. I realize our chances of getting a MWC invite any time soon are slim and none, but eventually movement is going to happen and the MWC is going to need another school within its geographic footprint to fill a hole. I'd rather wipe out those Sun Belt schools and see if we can get MWC or maybe sub in a CUSA school if we can. If the Sun Belt is going to kick us out, why help them with scheduling?

Yeah I would like to give the SBC schools the finger by not playing them. On the SBC board, SBC fans would like to see NMSU MBB play 4 SBC teams a year for a football game, and those games would be at SBC schools.
On a side note I have to say that I am enjoying Coastal Carolina's funding for their football stadium being blocked/dragged out. I bet they will still have only 9,000 seat stadium when they play their first SBC game.

I guess I was saying that above and beyond the UNM game 1 MWC team. The SBC comments make me laugh. 4 away basketball games for 1 away football game! That is crazy. There are plenty of SWAC schools that will come to the Pan-Am for a minimal payout.
Honestly, I would love the Indy schools to enter into a scheduling agreement where each will play one other team on a rotating basis. Not going to happen, but it would be fun.
While I am dreaming, I would love to see Rice, Houston, UNT, TCU, Baylor, UTSA and TSU also on the schedule.

NMSU is only 40 miles from the Sun Bowl.... Could we work a scheduling arrangement to play "home" games there to attract P5 teams? Say two P5 games at the Sun Bowl and 4 G5 home games for a total of 6 home games meet the NCAA 5 home game requirement. We get a pretty good turn out when we play UTEP at the Sunbowl, could we get a carry over turn out for the P5 teams? I know ... Pipe dream ... But JT would you go to El Paso to see NMSU versus Alabama?

I doubt that UTEP would go along with this. NMSU and UTEP compete for similar recruits and sponsorship $ in a rather small media market. I doubt that NMSU would even ask as well.
