Good article from Groves.
LAS CRUCES - New Mexico State is in the midst of putting together its 2018 football schedule. The Aggies will return to playing an independent schedule that year and want to generate revenue through both "money games" and attracting regional programs to Aggie Memorial Stadium.
The team isn't necessarily out of its league when compiling the independent schedule. Coach Doug Martin has experience in that arena.
Martin coached at East Carolina from 1992-2002, and the Pirates were an independent football program prior to joining Conference USA in 1997. The school used independent football as an opportunity to both fund the football program and the athletic department with three guarantee, or "money games" against power conference teams where Power 5 opponents will pay the Aggies $800,000 or more for NMSU to play a road game.
I note that UMass has a contract with Gillette Stadium to help lure P5 teams to play them.
An interesting fact ... Gillette Stadium is 38 miles (52 minutes in current traffic) from the University of Massachusetts. Sun Bowl Stadium is 41 miles (45 minutes) from NMSU.

It would be great if we could do that, but I think UTEP would be uncooperative.
