LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Aug. 7)-With preseason training in full swing, the New Mexico State soccer team is holding a Crimson and White scrimmage, Friday, Aug. 10 at 5 p.m. at the new Soccer Athletic Complex. The scrimmage is a free event and open to the public.
"The reasoning for having a scrimmage is to try to get as close to a real game played before we play our first game the following week," head coach Blair Quinn said. "We have to get the kids understanding the timing of playing 45 for a half and figuring out our substitution rotation. It helps to figure out who our best combinations of players are as well in terms of not just the best players but the players that play best together. That's a big piece of it, finding those combinations."
Entering their fourth year, the Aggies return nine starters from last season's squad that won a program-record 10 games. NM State's first freshman class is now seniors with seven players leading the way. The Aggies open the 2012 season at Boise State, Aug. 17, in the Holiday Inn Classic. NM State's home opener is Sept. 7 against Sam Houston State.
The soccer facility is located between the Coca-Cola Weight Center and the NM State Softball Complex on Stewart Street. For home contests, seating in the grandstand is first-come, first-served and may be limited, so fans are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to sit around the field. Parking is available in the softball/soccer parking lot and fans can enter through the shared entrance.
There will also be the opportunity for fans to purchase season tickets for the 2012 season.
