LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball team is set for the Annual Alumni Match, which is free of charge, Saturday, Aug. 18, at 4pm in the Pan American Center.
The current Aggies, led by the 2012 WAC Preseason Player of the Year, Meredith Hays, will take on former NM State greats such as former All-Americans Jennah DeVries and Krystal Torres along with former All-WAC selections Kelsi Phillips, Whitney Woods and Krista Altermatt in Las Cruces.
"We are excited for this event each year because it gives the fans a chance to catch up with the former players they came to watch," head coach Mike Jordan said. "This also gives us a chance to play someone other than ourselves and allows us see where we stand and what we need to work on."
Aggie volleyball fans have a chance to see what the 2012 team has in store with preseason All-WAC selections Lauren Loerch, who transferred in from California, and Desiree Scott. NM State is also excited to see the return of outside hitter Bradley Nash, who went down with a season-ending injury in the first match of the 2011 season.
Freshmen setter Taylor Livoti has a chance to earn a spot in the Aggie rotation but has to compete against sophomore Maggi Jo Keffury and junior transfer Ciara Brown, who have been working hard in the off-season to prepare for the year.
"We have a lot of depth at every position and we are very athletic," Jordan said.
The NM State volleyball team will be handing out posters and signing autographs at the Mesilla Valley Mall, Saturday, Aug. 18 from 12-1pm. Fans can take their cameras along and get pictures and autographs from the team before they start the 2012 volleyball season.
