New Mexico ranked near the bottom of the pile among all states, in terms of state government transparency and being at risk for corruption.
The findings of the State Integrity Investigation were released on Monday, and New Mexico has received an overall grade "D-" on the corruption risk report card, ranking 39th among all states. In a breakdown of the grading, the highest grade state secured was a "B-" for internal auditing and redistricting, while scoring a "D" in both legislative accountability and executive accountability; and an "F" grade in categories such as lobbying disclosure and ethics enforcement agencies.
The investigation was conducted by journalists, with analysis being done on the laws and practices that states have in place to deter corruption and promote accountability and openness.
New Jersey finished atop the state rankings with an overall "B+" grade and Georgia finished last with an "F" grade.
