It was a difficult first season for Darrell Hazell and the Golden Flashes. Kent State struggled to adapt to a new coaching system. The offense finished the season dead last in total offense (253.5 yards per game) and next to last in scoring offense (17.1 ppg). Those struggles showed up on the field as the team lost its first three games to open the season. Their first win was in Week 4 against FCS opponent South Alabama. Kent State followed that up with three straight losses again. The team did put together a nice four game winning streak before finishing with a loss to Temple on the road. It was the third straight 5-7 season for the Flashes.
