Any expansion by the Big 12 Conference is likely to injure the ACC, perhaps mortally wound the Big East and benefit Conference USA.
It is not the intention of the Big 12 to help C-USA. The two leagues are headquartered just a few miles apart in Dallas, but in the world of college athletics the two conferences couldn't be further apart.
Still, any addition to the Big 12 is most likely to come from the ACC, which directly impacts the Big East.
The Big East has been the most active raider of Conference USA teams, grabbing SMU, Houston, Memphis and UCF from C-USA.
But Conference USA, the home of the University of Tulsa, has landed six new members that would seem to give what remains of C-USA some sense of security.
None of the six is likely to have an impact on the BCS national championship chase but it gives Conference USA something that the Big East can't match - a future.
